Love, Lightness, and Joy: A Mantra for Happiness

This is my new mantra and what I say to myself every morning when I wake up: Love, Lightness and Joy! It’s a beautiful way to begin the day.
What this means for me is: I love my life (no matter what challenges I am experiencing), and I am so grateful to wake up and have a new day to enjoy my family and practice being the best version of myself!
Lightness reminds me that when my mood dips, if I’m feeling discouraged, if someone upsets me, or something isn’t going the way I want, I can ask for lightness. All I have to do is say the word “Lightness” over and over and within an hour, my mood will lift and I will feel better. I will have more energy and the heaviness that sometimes permeates my body and mind will evaporate. Such a great, quick tool to uplift yourself: “Lightness!”
Joy nudges me to find happiness in every day. We get so caught up in our ambitions and daily struggles that we forget to smile, enjoy the sunshine, listen to birds, chase butterflies, or sit with our family and friends to have a good laugh that creates lasting, loving memories. We have so many opportunities for joy, but because of our fast paced lives, we might literally have to pause and make the time to embrace the beauty of life.
I share this with you because this mantra has relieved me of depression dips. I used to be depressed all the time, and I have spent years developing ways to feel better naturally. In the past few years, the depression seems to come in waves out of nowhere, and I have been committed to overcoming this as well.
Saying the mantra has been one of the ways that these mood dips that used to last hours or a whole day dissipate in just under an hour. I feel so blessed to have found a way to quash this energy zapper that prevents me from living my life to the fullest.
